How is Norwex different to other microfibres out there?
2014-04-21 19.38.52

My aim in this article is to briefly address how Norwex is different to other microfibres around. It is an amazing, versatile, affordable product and I do warn people that using Norwex cloths can be quite addictive. EVEN for those people who DON’T like to clean (like me!). If you are after specific Norwex product “have to haves”/essentials… click the post here.

Are you thinking “how on earth is that possible?” Well let me explain… it just makes cleaning tasks which are typically a pain (like cleaning the oven, your floors, the shower, marks off walls etc.) so quick, so effective and so EASY. There are so many microfibres on the market- Norwex, Enjo, e-cloth, microfibres you can buy at the supermarket, online and at markets.

The question about how Norwex is different to other microfibres comes up all the time. You can buy 10 microfibre cloths from Big W or Bunnings for $10 why would you buy a Norwex EnviroCloth (multi purpose cloth) when it is more expensive? (this was one of my first questions!)

Norwex Microfibre…

  • Removes up to 99% of bacteria from a surface when following proper use and care
  • Contains BacLock® an antibacterial agent for self-cleansing purposes only
  • Helps eliminate the need for paper towels and chemical laden cleaners
  • Significantly reduces the use of costly cleaning products
  • Ultra-thick and absorbent to pick-up and hold more dust, dirt and debris than other cleaning cloths
  • Holds several times its weight in water
  • Made of more 3, 000 kilometres of microfibre for more effective cleaning power

How is Norwex different to other microfibres?

The Silver

Norwex microfibres are made with a blend of polyester & polyamide. Polyamide simply helps with durability. When the Norwex microfibre is at the pulp stage in the factory they add SILVER. This is called BacLock® an antibacterial agent for self-cleansing purposes only.

Why Silver?

Silver has antibacterial properties, properties humans have been using for decades. Hospitals use silver as their top defence against infection in burns patients. I know before I even knew Norwex existed, I was encouraged to buy (and bought) silver pads for my kindergarten daughter who tripped down a HUGE concrete hill (poor thing I still cringe as I think how that turned out). The Norwex labels, if they have the silver added will have the word ‘Baclock’  on the label.

The silver DOES NOT wash out of our microfibres.

What does the silver do?

The micro silver is an antibacterial agent for self-cleaning purposes. The agent inhibits bacterial odour, mould, and/or mildew growth within the product. IT doesn’t make the surface antibacterial the AMAZING micro fibres will remove everything off the surface for you easily and effectively THEN the silver goes to work. What does this mean? The micro silver in a wet cloth goes to work using its self-purification properties against mould, fungi and bacterial odour within 24 hours. Using JUST water, surfaces are left free from EVERYTHING- cleaned, polished and streak free.

Kitchen Cloths
Kitchen Cloths

I just think of our kitchen cloths so affordably priced and they replace your sponges, smelly microfibre cloths- because of the QUALITY & SILVER they just don’t smell like other cloths do. If you have bench tops or tables that streak, then you just HAVE to get 2-3 of these babies- THEY ARE AWESOME!!!

Cost & Quality

Norwex is a high quality microfibre and it’s important know for a fibre to be considered “microfibre” it needs to be 1/6 of a human hair or finer. Norwex microfibre is 1/200 of a human hair!! (Enjo fibres are 1/100th & supermarket brands nowhere near this density).

The way microfibre works, is every microfibre has tiny ‘hooks’ on the fibre, the capillary action PULLS the bacteria, dirt, dust, grease and residue up into the cloth. With Norwex Antibacterial Microfibre, you don’t breathe, touch or digest chemical cleaners and their residue. You remove, (not spread) the dirt, dust, grease and 99.9% of bacteria from a surface. Then the silver goes to work and inhibits the bacterial growth.

The Norwex enviro cloth for example has 2.9 million metres of fibre within the cloth

More microfibre = a better clean.

How Microfibre Works

The quality, two-year warranty on cloths, the 60 day satisfaction guarantee on ALL products and the added silver make for one amazing microfibre. Compared to other Direct Selling cleaning products Norwex is by far a more affordable product. The ability to clean your whole home for around $4 per week over 2 years makes having a Norwex home more appealing to the hip pocket. If you want to convert your home to Norwex have a look at the Healthy Home Packages (mop, cloths & more) or the dream starter kit. (remember here, if you do buy anything through my online store, you will be emailed the instructions as part of your receipt, which I know helps my customers tremendously to use their products and refer to them.

People often wonder how Norwex microfibre is different to other microfibres. Have a watch of this video called… What makes Norwex Microfibre so great?

Versatility & One step cleaning…

There are some products on the market that you need to use multiple steps to clean surfaces, with Norwex it’s a one step process.

As each cleaning challenge has different surfaces and different kinds of dirt and grime, Norwex has formulated different microfibres to tackle every area of your home, office, car & personal care.

For example the Bamboo Multi-Purpose cloth can be used to remove GREASE with just water (my Dad’s favourite cloth!), plus use them to clean most things- bathrooms, fridges, cupboards etc.

The window cloth– for windows, mirrors, polishing jewellery and shiny surfaces.

The Body cloths- for cleansing, exfoliating the skin, make up removal with only water

Washing & Care

No bleach or fabric softeners in the wash with all microfibres. However unlike some other microfibres, Norwex can be washed in machines up to temperatures of 95 degrees celsius with other lint free items. Norwex can go in a moderate dryer up to 60 degrees

enjo norwex comparisonA small word on the Norwex-Enjo comparison (a question that comes up frequently)

Firstly BOTH products use microfibre and you are able to switch to chemical free cleaning, however they are actually quite different. One thing I will share and it may help the Enjo user wondering what Norwex is and if it is for them… is those awesome customers I have who are Enjo users (and I absolutely love having Enjo users at my party as they KNOW the value and amazing clean microfibre gives) are absolutely LOVING their Norwex. I think of an older lady I met at a party about a year ago. She told me outright she loves her Enjo (which is great) and as she handed me her $250 order she told me that she absolutely loved the range of our products and bought products that complimented what she already had (eg. she was amazed at our scrub cloth, blown away in fact) but what she loved about the Norwex she was purchasing is it complimented what she had and there were many Norwex products that she “just had to have”. She also purchased products to replace the Enjo ones which had worn out.

Caring for your Norwex Cloths

make up clothsCaring for your Norwex cloths

One of the questions I often get asked, is how do I clean my Norwex cloths?

 Washing & Drying…

Norwex cloths can be put in the washing machine and they can be put in a moderate dryer, up to 60 degrees celcius. Using Norwex Ultra Power Plus will yield best results, or another environmentally friendly detergent without fillers and bleach.

 What about stubborn stains?

If you find a cloth either smells or has stubborn stains, cloths (*) can be boiled in a pot of water for 2-3 minutes, to allow fibres to swell and release the debris. Adding a teaspoon of ultra power plus also can help also. (* Not the mop bases or scrub cloth).

 Some Important Cautions…

PLEASE don’t wipe your cloths over hot elements (it will melt the fibres).

Don’t add fabric softener, bleach or dryer sheets when laundering microfibers as these additives coat the coat the surface of the fibres and reduce the microfiber’s ability to clean effectively.

 Warranty & Satisfaction Guarantee…

Norwex stands behind their product and offer a TWO YEAR WARRANTY from the date of purchase against faulty workmanship and materials.

DID you know EVERYTHING you purchase from Norwex comes with a 60 day satisfaction money back guarantee?? So what’s stopping you from trying something new?

“By Rachelle Potter”

So, What is Norwex?

Up until late 2012 I would of said, “Nor-what”?? Norwex stands for “the Norwegian experience”- it originates from Norway 🙂

Maybe you have heard the word Norwex mentioned by a friend, or seen it on a mothers forum. Maybe your friend has invited you to a Norwex party and you are currently doing your own research? Maybe you are looking for a side hustle, something different to do or work? Maybe you have family members who have health concerns and you are looking for alternatives to chemicals.

Below you will find some info about Norwex, if you are after more practical ‘what product does what’ then please head to my Norwex essentials post here.

Let me start with a splash of history…

It all started in 1994 when the Norwegian operation, “cleaning without chemicals” was born. In 1999 “Norwex”- “The Norwegian Experience” spreads to Canada with the Norwex Enviro products. In 2007, Norwex introduced a new microfibre and microsilver and 2008 saw Norwex Australia officially opened (yeah, Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi!!”). In 2011, Norwex expanded their products, introducing their personal care products.

And so the Norwex mission statement expanded to:

“Improving quality of life by radically reducing the use of chemicals in personal care and cleaning”

In 2014 it simplified to become:

fb banner mission statement

 What about chemicals?

In the last 50 years, more than 80,000 new chemicals have been created. Recently an article was published by Choice Australia (if you click on the link the article will open in a new window) it was about known and common chemicals to avoid in household and personal care products which have been linked to causing some cancers and reproductive abnormalities. It is a really scary list and one that confirms for me the absolute rightness that I be involved in a company that does indeed “strive to improve quality of life rather than standard of living”. Most of the chemicals we are exposed too, haven’t been assessed on how they impact on human health. And there are growing links to chemicals and things like asthma and allergies as well.

Over the next little while I will go into more depth about chemicals, be sure to sign up to my email so you can stay informed.

I love what I read from our Chairman, in the inside cover of our catalogue,

“Our vision reaches far beyond making a profit. Norwex goes above that limited horizon with deep respect for the value and beauty of all life and a healthy planet. We are committed to making a powerful and positive difference in the world we live in and the lives we touch”.

Norwex Microfibre, how does is work?

All of our microfibre products carry a 2 year warranty AND everything you buy from Norwex carries a 60 day money back guarantee. I find these two policies amazing and shows me how Norwex stands behind their products.

Microfibre

Norwex microfibre is 1/200th the size of a strand of human hair, one of the most innovative products in the cleaning industry today. Here’s an interesting fact, in each Norwex Enviro Cloth there is approximately 2.9 million metres of microfibre! You can use the cloths dry to dust or wet to clean. Most of the cloths have micro silver added at the pulp stage of manufacturing. The cloths include ‘BacLock’ technology. The micro silver is an antibacterial agent for self-cleaning purposes only. The agent is solely designed to inhibit bacterial odour, mould, and/or mildew growth within the product.

What does this mean for cleaning?

There is no need to use harmful chemicals while cleaning, only water! The  microfibre lifts the dirt, grease and grime into the cloth and off the surface. Surfaces are left free from everything- cleaned, polished, and smear free.

What is Norwex? Why is it so great?

If you wanted to read more information about what Norwex is, and the differences between Norwex and other microfibres, read more here.

Personal care

I touched briefly before on chemicals. The personal care range uses the bacloc technology in the microfibre in products such as the suede make up removal cloths and body cloths. The ingredients in the body and skincare products don’t contain any of the ‘nasties’ (see below and in the article link above) rather ONLY ingredients that are natural and organic, not synthetic.

Some ‘nasties’- Mineral oil and silicon; Synthetic emulsifiers like PEG (polyethylene glycol); Viscosity controlling agents like Carbomer; Preservatives such as formaldehyde releasers, parabens, or phenoxyethanol; Synthetic perfumes; Synthetic dyes; and Synthetic solvents like propylene glycol.

Have a look at the products you use and see if they have any of these ingredients…

What does this mean for your personal care?

Ingredients that are pure and safe for the environment means they are more gentle on your skin. This promotes better quality of life and helps to reduce the damaging effects of toxins. They are a beautiful range and since my ‘switch’ to Norwex have only been impressed and amazed at the results.

And you know what?

If a product doesn’t ‘agree’ with your skin, and even natural ingredients can react on some sensitive skin, then you have 60 days to return your product to the consultant you bought it from and either try something else or get your money back!!

So, What is Norwex?
